How did the idea for your business come about?
Having to raise my kids in foreign land away from family without much support, i had to overcome many hardships in the process. After coming back to India my passion led me to take the big step to help young mothers. Whilst working in Hospital Administration, after return to India, I was able to guide my friends and relatives with queries about child health and well being. I could relate them to myself only that “I wish I had help like this with my kids!” These experiences motivated me to start up an organisation for young mothers with New born babies. The overwhelming response I got through this program motivated me to spread my wings to address the multitude of issues relating to motherhood from any aged mothers. It is for the fact that perhaps motherhood is a life time work filled with challenges at every stage.
What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
My passion is my driving force. I say “never say no and never give up” ever since I have come up with my project, there were many who tried to discourage me. Once my work was getting appreciated, my contemporaries and even some of my friends have tried to replicate my work. I believed in my attributes and skills which no one can replace or replicate. No matter the competition, i always stay focused. it is perhaps very easy to get deviated along the way, my dedication and passion always have been my driving forces.
What motivates you?
I strive to be unique. To be able to make difference in the lives of mothers struggling with kids of any age, is one satisfactory reward, which I look forward to in my field of work. In doing so i wish to set an example for my clientele by showing results of my work from home through my kids.
What are your ideals?
Every person you meet is there for a reason and every experience is a learning opportunity. Every individual I come across teaches me so many values in life. I am that person who learns more from mine and others experiences. Appreciating and valuing what I have.
What entrepreneurial tricks have you discovered to keep you focused and productive in your day-to-day busy schedule?
Be prepared to fail, start again, and re-channelize your vision. Not all dreams come true at once, go slow and take small focused steps towards your vision. Accept failures with equal responsibility as you rejoice success.
Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?
Firstly believe in your concept, then set a goal for yourself. be it short term or long term goal. work towards reaching them. There are no shortcuts to success. Always hold your ground, be it in success or failure. Hard work and being focused on what you want to do in the initial stages is a must. I believe in updating and upgrading my skills constantly, as i believe a persons wisdom ends the day they stop learning.
What are all the challenges you faced and how you overcame them?
The moment a woman becomes a mother, the expectations are such that she has to instantly turn on to be a mother. I have felt that our society is not ready to accept the fact that “Mpther” is the person who needs most emotional and physical help. I believe that these mothers would benefit from my sessions. Educating and creating awareness about Motherhood challenges was my major vision.
In fact one of the new mother has come forward for a session with her own mother and the mother was prompt to say “You are a young mother yourself- how could you help my daughter?” By the end of our session, the mother was very impressed and she attended to all the remaining sessions along with her daughter.
I tried too hard to convince all including some of my family about my concept, some were rather sceptical about my project. They were the ones who closely observed my work and they were the first ones to appreciate my work. It is the belief that you carry forward to fulfil your vision.
In the crowd of different businesses, how you differentiate your business?
My research prior to starting up my project has revealed that mine would be the first of its kind in India. Our organisation is a Pioneer in Mother’s Emotional Well being. what started as a project for mothers with new born kids, we have now extended the project to cover every aspect of motherhood. We are constantly upgrading to meet the requirements of mothers and come up with exciting projects to suit every mothers’ requirement.
What is your favourite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
The appreciation i get from satisfied mothers is most satisfying reward of my daily routine. being able to make a difference to a mother and a kid is the reward i look forward to the most. Being an entrepreneur, Most of the time I get flexible working hours and place. I choose when and from where I want to work every day.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
Getting peace in a family is a huge achievement. Every Mom who comes with different queries and issues when satisfied gives me Cloud Nine feeling with a personalized touch. Every day i get inundated with calls from satisfied mother and kids as well, but my personal favorite challenging task to take up was talking to a 5 yr. old girl along with her Single mother about EARLY PUBERTY, making her understand about the body changes and emotional changes she will go through and how to ask for help. As how much is too much while trying to keep both Mother and daughter on the same page.
What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs?
There is no shortcut to success, any such gains if you encounter, be assured, they are short lived. Be focused and passionate about your project. Do it wholeheartedly and not just for the sake of doing it. Success always follows hard work. Be prepared for Plagiarism, they may be from someone you know quite well or someone who knows your concept. Remember, they can copy your idea but never your passion. Believe in your concept.
